The articles, charts, calculators and videos linked here describe healthy animals in general. Your animal's needs depend on things no web page can check: its weight and body condition, age, breed, neuter status, illnesses, medicines and more. Calculators give estimates

Calculators use published equations that describe average animals. Individual animals can need a quarter more or less than the calculated amount. Treat every result as a starting point, weigh your animal regularly, and adjust with your vet.

In an emergency

Don't use this site to decide whether an emergency is serious. If your animal may have eaten something poisonous, is struggling to breathe, has collapsed, is overheating, has been in an accident, or is in severe pain, go to the nearest veterinary hospital immediately.

Animal bites and scratches in people: wash the wound with soap and running water for 15 minutes and see a doctor the same day. Rabies is fatal once symptoms start, and only a doctor can decide whether vaccination is needed.

Medicines

This site never gives medicine doses for owners to use. Many human medicines — including paracetamol, ibuprofen and diclofenac — are dangerous or fatal to pets. Only give your animal medicine that a veterinarian has prescribed for it.
